Behold the Ellora Caves!
One of the 3 ancient sides that moved Axel to initiate documenting Indian ancient heritage and mysteries with his art! (the other two being Hampi + Barabar caves).
With Buddhist, Hindu and Jainc faith carvings of monolithic ancient beauty from the 6th-10th centuries, this UNESCO World Heritage site located in Maharashtra, India, famous for their massive rock-cut 34 monasteries, temples and caves carved into a basalt cliff – it is said that over 2 million tonnes of granite were carved out to reveal this grandeur, and there is no clear indication of how and where this giant quantity was removed.
We spent a long time marvelling in the iconic Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), the world’s largest monolithic excavation, showcasing incredible ancient Indian engineering and artistry, religious harmony, and architectural innovation.
We also had a joyous time connecting with friendly and kind locals from different parts of India – such a joy!
Enjoy this beauty
Blessings!
